Typesetting

Osprey

In my role at PDQ, I was often tasked with typesetting books for Osprey, which is part of Bloomsbury. Osprey publish war-themed history books, war-gaming books and British history books.

The templates for these titles are already in place – my job was the complex task of fitting a new manuscript and images into a set page extent.

Pinpoint English

The Pinpoint project was handed to me not long after I started at PDQ. This consisted of six books produced for Pearson Education. Working with guidance from Pearson, I finalised the template and worked with an illustrator to create the books.

Pearson

I have been involved in several major projects for Pearson. In this case, I had been supplied with templates that were constantly being updated, and was dropping new manuscripts in, working section-by-section.

One of the main challenges was learning how to integrate the MathsTools plugin for InDesign, which is used to provide native support for things like editable stacked fractions.

Secure

One of the biggest projects I have been involved with in recent years is secure typesetting. My role was to lead the project, learn everything I could about it and write a workflow for my colleagues to follow. The security around this work was very strict.

The output requirements for this were also very strict, given that we were dealing with sensitive information and there is a constant exchange of information with the client. Obviously, this material can't be reproduced here.
